City of London launches wi-fi mesh

Internet accessible from anywhere in Central London.

From today, anyone strolling through Central London will be able to receive wi-fi internet on their wireless devices thanks to a new network launched by the City of London and wi-fi operator The Cloud.

The BBC reports that the new mesh is claimed to be Europe’s most advanced and consistent wireless network, comprising 127 lamp-post nodes that are capable of serving up to 350,000 people.

It is said to comprise 95 per cent of Central London from Finsbury Park to Smithfield.

However, unlike some rival networks, access will not be free, and is instead available through a variety of providers.
