Dell to enter tablet PC market

Latitude XT to arrive later this year
Dell has confirmed via an online video announcement that it is to enter the tablet PC market. It’s first tablet PC, the Latitude XT boasts a 12.1 inch screen and promises to be incredibly lightweight.The machine currently runs Windows Vista and comes with Bluetooth and wi-fi, and will be based upon Intel’s Santa Rosa Centrino Pro platform. It is also fitted with a fingerprint scanner and comes with X3100 integrated graphics.
This is Dell’s first foray into the tablet market, which is dominated by the likes of Hewlett-Packard, Fujitsu, LG and Gateway.
Explaining Dell’s absence from the market so far Jeff Clark, senior vice president of business product group said: “The technology, customer and usage models have evolved to the point that it makes sense for Dell to enter the marketplace.”
