AMD to reposition its leading CPU in preparation for new Phenom model

With its brand new range of Phenom processors on the horizon, chip manufacturer AMD is to reposition its existing Athlon 64 X2 model as an entry-level CPU for future PC users.

DailyTech reports that in conjunction with the strategic shift a number of changes will be made to the Athlon range.

The new Athlon 64 X2 BE-2000 will be based on AMD’s 65nm Brisbane core, whilst the Athlon BE-2000 will boast a 45-watt TDP rating, making it as energy efficient as many single-core processors.

Other models in the range will include the BE-2400 and BE-2300.

The revitalised Athlon selection is expected to debut next month.
