Samsung releases new 64GB SSD flash drive

New drive available to retailers over coming months

Samsung has unveiled its latest flash solid-state disk, the 64GB SSD. The unit, which is just 1.8 inches promises read speeds of 65MB/sec and a write speed of 45MB/sec.

Built around eight, 8GB single-level cell flash memory chips and utilizing a 51 nanometre manufacturing process, the drive is expected to make an appearance in retailers and ultra-portable laptops over the coming months.

With SSD drives being around ten-times more expensive than similar sized static and external HDDs the market for the devices are still limited to those who buy the latest technology or require the smallest drives possible.
