HD DVD camp say PS3 Blu-ray exclusivity won't harm its market share
The recent decline in the cost of the PS3 will not prompt consumers to begin buying Blu-ray movies, says a spokesperson form the European HD DVD Promotional Group.
The EHPG added that external HD DVD drives for the Xbox 360 will become increasingly common in the near future, saying that while Blu-ray drives in the PS3 could not be accurately be included as not all owners use it for watching movies, the Xbox 360 unit can be since it is only used for watching HD DVD movies.
Microsoft has repeatedly stated that is has no intentions to launch an Xbox 360 with a built in next-gen optical drive.
The EHPG drew on some figures released by market analyst's GfK, that portray HD DVD as the dominant force, commanding no less that 70 per cent of the market. The figures however will not disguise the fact that the Blu-ray camp is growing.
In other news announced recently the Blu-ray camp have launched a promotion, where anyone buying a Blu-ray player, including a PS3 can mail the Blu-ray disc Association in order to obtain five free Blu-ray movies.

I think you misread the press releases or reports. The Xbox 360 has had an HD DVD add-on drive since last year.

I would like to see some sales figures that back your claims, hd dvd... beating bluray in sales??? Ok you are right, ps3 drops won't hurt the hd dvd martket share. You have Transformers!!!! But the big problem is that Toshiba is one of the only manufauctures of HD DVD.
Did you see the list of players that BLU has comming out and the maunfacturing power that is behind it? Rediculous.

@Pimp:
The GfK figures have been round for ages now... and besides... GfK is an independent market research firm. Those figures you're quoting are from the Blu-ray group themselves... I'd rather believe what the Sun says than what a promotional group says themselves. Sony are notorious bulls***ters so I wouldn't believe a thing they say. Regardless, if the HD DVD guys came out with figures that weren't independent, in the same way as the Blu-ray figures aren't, then I wouldn't believe them either.
And as for the whole including of PS3's, I agree... Not everyone is going to use it for watching Blu-ray movies. Only those that feel they have to justify spending a stupid amount of money at launch when they could have waited till now and picked up one at far less.
