Over $10 bn Q3 revenue leads to 43 per cent YOY net income increase

Chip behemoth Intel has announced its third quarter takings and they're big. Its revenue f $10.1 bn is a 15 per cent year-on-year increase and has yielded an even more impressive $2.2 bn operating income (up 64 per cent) and $1.9 bn net income (up 43 per cent).

Intel has identified "record microprocessor, chipset and flash unit shipments" as the reason for the revenue boost. Intel President and CEO Paul Otellini added: "A combination of great products, strong and growing worldwide demand, and operational efficiency from our ongoing restructuring efforts led to record third-quarter revenue and a 64-percent year-over-year gain in operating income."

"Looking forward, we see each of these elements continuing to improve into the fourth quarter. We are very pleased with the results and optimistic about our business," he added, ominously. We won't know how much of these increases were at AMD's expense until their results come out. For the sake of competition, let's hope not too much.
