OFT to check top etailers

Top 600 retail websites to be assessed for online shopping law compliance
The Office of Fair Trading and Local Authority Trading Standards Services are to perform an internet sweep of the UK's top e-retailers, with an assessment to be published in the New Year.
Office of Fair Trading research indicates that the majority of online consumers do not know their rights under the Distance Selling Regulations. Therefore the OFT, along with the Trading Standards services from over a 100 local authorities, will check that the most popular shopping websites meet the regulation’s key requirements.
No decision has been made over what would happen if a breach was discovered, however, the OFT has reassured that the aim of the exercise is to simply raise business awareness of the distance selling laws.
