DSGi unveils new Heathrow stores

First airport PC World and Dixons Tax Free Accessories outlets amongst innovative retail offering

DSGi has revealed that it will be opening its first ever PC World in an airport, as well as a further two Dixons Tax Free and the new Dixons Tax Free Accessories stores, when Heathrow's Terminal 5 opens on March 27th.

The retail group took the wraps off the new stores, promising a 'bright, light and airy' shopping experience. Both stores will have the latest technology stocked in them at airport prices, ranging from HDTVs through to Apple laptops.

The Dixons stores will also play host to a new retail concept of 'play tables', where customers will be able to try out the latest products, aimed at airline travellers.

It revealed that the first PC World store will be located in the main terminal, featuring a range of products, from the latest in business and travel-orientated items, through to a wide selection of Apple laptops.

The two Dixons Tax Free stores – one located in the main terminal with the PC World store, and the other in the long haul satellite terminal – will stock the usual range of cameras, MP4 players, laptops and other services.

Finally, the new Dixons Tax Free Accessories store marks a launch of a new store format aimed at those who are short of time and need to make last minute add-on purchases such as batteries, chargers or headphones.

Speaking about the launch, DSGi's managing director of airport retail, Andrew Milliken said: "T5 will house the largest concentration of passengers in Europe – all under one roof.

"We are thrilled to be able to offer our customers such a variety of stores, each specially designed to match specific passenger needs, in this single airline terminal. We believe passengers will be surprised and delighted by what they find in all our T5 stores," he added.

Nick Ziebland, Terminal 5's retail director echoed Milliken's enthusiasm about the store launches. "The new stores, including the first ever PC World airport store, will offer the latest products to passengers travelling through Heathrow’s new Terminal 5.

"PC World and Dixons Tax Free are both established technology brands which offer exciting and innovative ranges – a perfect fit for the new British Airways terminal."

Hi,

On 16th Aug, 08 i stopped at Dixons, Heathrow airport, terminal 5 (next to departure gate B39) to purchase a phone card. I just needed to make a short call and so i asked the sales person which phone card would give a good value to make a short call. He offered me Vodaphone (17.95). He said it would give me 8 pounds talk time free. The other option was of orange(8.5) and in that i would get no talktime and i would need to top it u with 10 of talk time. I obvisouly chose Vodaphone. I just had to make a short but very urgent call. However, as soon as i made the call after about 10 secs the line got disconnected. When i went back to the sales person and told him that i did not get the 8 talk time - instead of helping me out he actually said "too bad- i didnt know that. We cant help you with this." I still had to top it up so this guy says "We dont top up phone cards for less than 20, so if you want less than that we cant help you" i was shocked. This guy just sold me a phone card for 10 more by lying to me. Since i was on my way out i used the last 20 pounds i had. He was a tall guy with a little bit of hair under his lower lip. I'm an Indian and i live in bangalore and a total of 40 makes a big dent in my pocket for me.

I must say I am appalled at the service i received. I wish someone did something about this kind of treatment. The sales person could see i was in a rush and how urgent it was for me to make that call and he made use of it. I'm not going to stop talking about this treatment. I will next go to the watchdog and all other sites i can go to and let them know about this. Taking advantage of the fact that the customer is on their way out of the country is probably the worst customer service angle any company can have.

Thank you.
