Computer sales climb, though revenues from printer division fall

Strong growth in its computer sales has seen leading PC manufacturer Hewlett Packard enjoy a 38 per cent increase in its fiscal first quarter profit.

Shipments in the company’s computer division climbed 27 per cent, though printer sales actually fell by two per cent, owing mostly to a drop in ink cartridge sales.

The results, which saw the firm’s profits jump by five per cent, buck recent trends in the US economy, and has even lead some analysts to say that the tech industry might now survive the predicted US recession.

However, with the US accounting for just 31 per cent of HP’s quarterly revenue, it’s the overseas markets that have really performed for the firm.
