VAR picks up premium notebook system integrator, signaling consumer move

PC Retail award winner Stone Computers has announced that it bought failed notebook specialist Rock as part of its on going expansion and has hinted that more acquisitions are on the way.

Speaking to HEXUS.channel's Scott Bicheno, Stone Computer's CEO James Bird confirmed that it had bought the Warwickshire-based system integrator. "We exchanged contracts with Deloitte as of 6pm [Monday].

"I've known Rock's chief executive Nick Boardman for ten years so I was familiar with the business.

There are huge synergies to be had as Stone has started to develop its own brand of laptops," he continued.

"The Rock brand will continue and become the face of the mobile side at Stone Computers. Nick Boardman will join the Stone board as director of mobile technologies. This is a great opportunity to drive the Rock brand in the public sector – Stone's traditional market – as well as the consumer market."

He also hinted at further acquisition, adding: "Our group strategy is one of acquisition and this will be the first of many."
