HP and Acer settle lawsuits

Vendors agree out-of-court settlement to patent litigation

Acer has settled with HP over a series of patent disputes between the two companies.

The dispute, which originated last year when HP launched a suit against the Taiwanese vendor over alleged patent violations to do with processor tweaks, power consumption technology and DVD editing tools, saw the US firm looking to block all imports of Acer products into the US.

The case was further upped when HP added allegations, and Acer countersued over seven patents it claimed HP was violating.

In a statement, Acer said: "The confidential settlement agreement resolves claims asserted in three federal lawsuits and two United States International Trade Commission investigations between the parties. As a result of the settlement agreement, each action will be dismissed as to the parties."
