Move part of increased internet advertising shift

DSGi has moved into the realms of social networking sites in its latest promotional move, aimed at capturing a slice of the lucrative 18-24 year-old demographic, by launching a sponsored page for its online retail-wing Dixons.co.uk on Facebook.

The move, which is part of its advertising shift toward online as reported by PC Retail, will also be backed up by mail shots and internet advertising, according to marketing manager at DSGi Richard Clark, who was speaking to Brand Republic's Revolution Forum earlier this week.

It features a photo album of products the retailer feels will appeal to the demographic and will play host to features, competitions and promotions, as well as discussion boards such as 'What is top of your gadget wish lists?'

“DSGI and Facebook”

WOW dixons has been around for decades selling fridges radios, hi-fi, computers camera's mp3's.
and now their spending lots more money to tell people that they sell.. oh, the same things.
how many times can they actually tell the same person in a same day they sell a MP3 player to make them buy it. i see it 3 times a day on TV in 2 newspapers and on 3 websites. i get sick of the mp3 player not curious or interested. telling the same person (8 times for me a day) about a product will not sway them to buy. once is enough. spend the millions on expanding the range instead
maybe if the group expanded out of the electrical market. maybe pubs, clothing, food.

look at tesco.. it realised it reached its customer base limit on food. it did not taste millions more on advertising on every website that it sell apples. instead it decided to expand what it sells to drag more customers in.
phones. clothes. computers. and now.. internet, and even real estate. now thats money well spent.

DSGI if ur reading imagine u got your advertising on a technology format that involves people having to have a PC with internet access and a digital camera . coz thats what facebook is about. then why would you advertise to a customer base that already has something you want to sell.
Advertise on a media that does not require techno -savy customers. like baby monitors on a baby-todler website. those robots on Cbbc website. DAB radio on a radio1 website. think about it. if they have to log onto radio1 website to listen to radio then they dont have a DAB in the house. think smarter. dont waste money. especially on a techno-savy website such as facebook. people on their are already tooled up before they sign up. a bit too late by the time they see your adverts.
