Netbook is light on specs but low price tag promise to rock the channel's foundations
Taiwanese vendor Carapelli has taken the wraps off what it claims is the world's cheapest laptop, coming in at just £65.
The Impulse NPX-9000, which has a seven inch screen, is light on specifications with a 400MHz processor, 128MB RAM and 1GB of flash storage – slightly less powerful than a top of the line PC from ten years ago, but with its low price tag has the potential to upset the market.
That compares to the original Asus Eee PC, which came with a 900MHz processor, 512MB RAM and 2GB of flash storage and a £219 price tag.
The device, which runs on Linux, could pose a serious threat not just to other more expensive netbooks, especially with recent comments from IDC to PC Retail suggesting UK consumers are more concerned about price than specification, but also V-Tech's line of electronic learning aids, which retail for around £75.
It is available to retailers now from Alibaba in orders of 100.

That unit is an open design, several manufacturers have already had it in development for sometime. It's big in china with the telecoms apparently... bear in mind that thing is about as fast as your mobile phone!

This is no more of a threat to the laptop market than a PDA!!!
“Misleading”

Bit of a misleading article really. The Laptop may well be available for $120 / £65 but this is an FOB price, meaning the manufacturer will get it to a shipping port. THe importer then has to pay for the cost of shipping, import duties, Taxs, incountry shipping and then adds a profit margin ontop. Personally I would be surprised if anyone could put this on sale anywhere at a retail price less than £120 / $240.
Also, Sionnach its bad form to comment on a service that you have obviously never used. Alibaba is a VERY effective sourcing tool and it has no hand in dealing with money or transactions. Thats between you and the vendor!!

Also,Harrison. having worked several years out of asia, you would be hard pushed to actually arrive at a vendor to find a working sample from a vendor who puts 3d cad image online through alibaba.....agree?
