DSGi brings Irish strategy into line with that of UK; Stores to be rebranded as Currys or PC World
DSGi has brought its Irish operation into line with the UK, after it announced that it would be rebranding its Dixons stores under the Currys moniker.
The retailer currently has eight Dixons stores in the country. Seven of those will be being rebranded as Currys, while one of its stores in Dublin will become a PC World.
Speaking to the Independent in Ireland, managing director of DSGi in Ireland stressed that Dixons' exit from the High Street had no been prompted by declining economic conditions, but instead, it was designed to bring its branding into line with that in the UK.
The move will bring the number of Currys outlets in Ireland to 17, with another earmarked to open before the end of the year in Leinster.
As in the UK, the Dixons' brand will become the retailer's online presence.

“Makes no sense”

To quote Wikipedia:
"The first Dixons was opened by Charles Kalms in Southend as a photographic studio in 1937."
Currys didn't do electricals until the 60s apparently and Dixons bought the company in 1984.
Stanley Kalms was chairman until fairly recently and is life President. It was his father who started Dixons.
In terms of their heritage this makes little sense.
The Dixons online brand is hardly prevalent, so what was once an instantly recognisable brand has practically been flushed down the toilet.
