Retail chain set to make deputy managers redundant as it looks to cut costs
Over 200 jobs may go at Comet as the retailer looks to cut costs by dissolving the position of deputy manager.
The retail chain, which currently has 250 stores across the country, is currently in negotiations with its 202 deputy store managers over a solution to the issue.
It is believed the weak white goods market, which Comet relies on more than rival DSGi, prompted the move.
Speaking to the Independent, Comet spokeswoman said: "Our proposal is a response to the changes our business is facing and the highly competitive nature of the market we operate in.
We are seeking to secure alternative roles for colleagues based on their experience and the roles available."
She was keen to stress though that decisions had been made about the job losses.

Well not quite the same as Currys as they simply got rid of the Deputy Managers who were rubbish at the job (and lets be honest, there were a fair few in that category) and kept the ones who were good.

Dixons got rid of a lot of their deputys & not because they were rubbish at their jobs it was just to save money the same can be said about Currys I worked their through both lots of cuts they actually got rid of alot of the more experienced better paid deputys & kept alot of the muppets who were lower paid.
