Vendor once again at centre of major notebook recall
Sony has recalled 438,000 laptops after it emerged that several of its Vaio range have a potential hazard that could result in overheating or burning the user.
It is the largest recall of laptops since Dell, Toshiba, Lenovo and Apple were forced to recall several million laptops because of issues with their Sony manufactured batteries.
Models affected include Sony's TZ100, TZ200, TZ300 and TZ2000.
The issue concerning this recall is related to an 'irregularly positioned wires near the computer's hinge and/or dislodged screw inside the hinge' according to the US Consumer Products Safety Commission.
"This poses a burn hazard to consumers," the agency told Reuters. "Sony has initiated a voluntary program to perform a free inspection and, if necessary, a repair to ensure these units meet our high quality standards."
