Anti-virus specialist bought out in £10 million deal

Network vendor Netgear has negotiated a $17.5 million (£9.4 million) acquisition of anti-virus streaming specialist CP Secure.

The deal, which is expected to go through later this year, will see CP Secure’s CEO Shuang Ji assume the role of Netgear’s vice president of engineering for security products.

Additionally, Netgear will acquire a number of CP Secure employees and its engineering centre in Nanjing with its engineering team of over 40 people, as well as current products and those in development.

Netgear has targeted the release of a line of appliances incorporating CP Secure’s platform for web, email and unified threat management within a year.

“CP Secure’s offerings complement our current network security offerings,” said Netgear CEO Patrick Lo. “With an expanded security solution lineup that will incorporate CP Secure’s integrated platform, we can provide organizations with robust, comprehensive, zero-hour protection for their network, web access and email traffic.”
