New Apple ads bait Microsoft

Poking holes in the software giants advertising strategy

It’s not standard practice to create an advertising campaign that centres on the marketing strategies of your rivals, however this is the approach that Apple has adopted in its latest series of PC/Mac adverts.

These adverts have been hugely successful for Apple, which secured ten per cent of market share last week for the first time.

Whereas previous ads focussed on the weaknesses of generic PCs as compared to Macs (bad design, freezing etc), the new campaign appears to concentrate specifically on Microsoft.

The first ad criticises the $300 million that Microsoft has allocated for its drive to advertise Vista, showing the ‘PC’ character dividing up its money in to a huge pile of cash for advertising and a small bundle of notes for product improvement.

The second ad, entitled V-Word, features the ‘PC’ character hitting a buzzer every time ‘Mac’ says “Vista,” in an attempt to censor the word.

“Very standard practice”

"Its not standard practice to create an advertising campaign that centres on the marketing strategies of your rivals, however this is the approach that Apple has adopted in its latest series of PC/Mac adverts."
But yet that is what Microsoft did when it validated the Apple campaign by launching it's "I'm a PC" campaign.

To Paul,
True, but the difference is that "I'm a PC" didn't criticise Apple's business strategy nor did it specifically name any Apple products.
If both companies carry on down this path, the whole thing will devolve in to a televised slanging match.

all i have to say is untill all software giants like nero adobe etc etc become more compliant with mac as well as pc based systems, everyone will carry on using microsoft. regardless of who advertises what
this is also true for schools, all the schools i know are teaching the kids microsoft products not mac
on the other hand i am biased against the lisence fees of microsoft tho i have found their help and support very good
