250 made redundant at retailer's service and repair arm

DSGi, parent of Currys and PC World, has made 250 people redundant from its servicing and repaiting division TechGuys.

PC Retail understands that around 600 people were initially informaed that their roles were at risk.

The redundacnies come after the group posted a £30 million loss last month.

DSGi insisted to us that many of those who left opted to take the redundancy package voluntarily, which 'worked out well for them.'

"In May, DSGi announced a 'Renewal and Transformation' plan to improve profitability and competitiveness to the business, with a greater focus on customers' needs," said a spokesperson.

"The TechGuys, the UK's leading provider of technology solutions and repairs, is repositioning the business to provide better service for customers through a more efficient operating model.

"This has involved the tightening and unifying of TechGuy's decentralised structure. Unfortunately, the announcement did mean that a number of field-based roles have been removed in the last few months, essentially achieved through offering alternative roles within the group and a number of voluntary redundancies."
