TVs, PCs and MP3 players dominate Christmas searches

Latest Hitwise figures reveal huge increases for consumer electronics categories

Computers, televisions and iPods where amongst the most searched for products over the two week Christmas period, according to the latest report by internet monitor Hitwise.

Its figures show that searches for televisions increased by 148 per cent during the two weeks ending December 27th. Only mobile phones prevented it taking the top spot for searches.

The second fastest growing area was MP3 players, with Apple in particular doing well. Overall, searches for MP3 players were up 45 per cent, with Apple's iPod accounting for 85 per cent of all enquiries.

Hitwise also found that for the first time since its launch, the Touch became the most searched for iPod, narrowly edging out the generic iPod.

Computers also saw a large increase in searches, up 33 per cent, with Samsung's NC10 receiving the most enquiries, followed by the Sony Vaio. Acer's Aspire One – currently the number one ranked netbook – came third.
