Australia: Microsoft survey finds 45 per cent believe it's okay to use counterfeit software
Figures compiled by Microsoft have shown that nearly half of Australians are happy to use pirated software.
The findings were published as part of a drive by Microsoft to highlight the dangers of using counterfeit programs and to defend its deployment of the Genuine Advantage checks.
"While the survey found that virtually every Australian (98 per cent) considers it important to keep their computer safe from viruses and online threats, people are putting themselves at risk by using pirated software, which has been shown to be 43 per cent more vulnerable to viruses and spyware," said Microsoft Australia's consumer product manager, Steve Johns.
