Vendor launches Windows Server 2008 Foundations for firms with less than 15 users
Microsoft is set to launch a new version of its SMB server family aimed at businesses with less than 15 users and costing less than $1,000.
Designed to combat the threat of low cost Linux-based servers and pirated copies of its software, the new product – called Windows Server 2008 Foundations – has been designed for those businesses, which can't afford the cost of the previous base level Windows Small Business Server.
Analysts have predicted that the low-end market is currently seeing growth four times faster than any other part of the single processor server market.
Acer, Dell, HP and IBM have been announced as vendor-partners, and will be releasing products based on the Windows Server 2008 Foundations software later this year.
